1 April 2008 - "Deutsch ist schwul"

In just over one weeks time, I will be expected to recall pages and pages of my German speaking answers for a GCSE exam. I’m just wondering how anyone can think that it is possible to learn over thirty question answers (each of which are at least a paragraph long), a two page presentation and presentation questions?

I personally find it ridiculous that they assess how good you are at a language by how well you can memorise the answers to questions such as “what would you do if you had a million pounds?” or “what did you do last weekend?”. Sure, when learning languages, memory is a key skill but when if it ever came to a real life conversation with an actual German person, you would have to make up your answer on the spot not recall your answer from memory. And I seriously doubt that upon visiting Germany, I would ever be asked what I would do if I had a million pounds.

However, the ranting of a fourteen (soon to be fifteen!) year old girl on her little blog on the internet isn’t about to change things… so I guess I’d better go and revise. Sigh…

28 September 2007 - "New Era?"

I’ve spent the past few days off school after a blow to my leg has rendered me crippled. Erm, don’t worry! Not literally, but I can’t walk properly and have to drag myself up and down stairs. It was James’ birthday yesterday (the 27th) and we went to the cinemas. I had to drag myself up the stairs. What a laugh!

I’d also like to make you aware of the fact that today is hug a vegetarian (or vegan) day. Hurrah! For those of you who don’t know, I’m actually vegetarian and have been for about six or seven years. Even as a young child I didn’t like meat, except from the processed stuff. The thought of what it was went through me and when I learnt the appalling conditions which the animals are kept in, I stopped eating meat all together. Unfortunately as I wasn’t in school today and haven’t met up with my friends, the number of hugs I received today was approximately… none.

After changing my permalink structure it seems that when you lot click ‘comment’, it doesn’t take you to the page to comment. Oh dear. Well, I’ve been thinking about this and I’ve decided that maybe that’s a good thing. It seems like for me, blogging has recently become only about receiving comments. I don’t think that that’s a good thing. So I’ve taken off the comment option all together and now blogging is going to be something I do for fun. Fun! Can you believe it? Blogging for fun! Who ever heard of such a thing?

This, obviously doesn’t mean that you can’t get in touch with me any more. I’m going to install a new contact form ASAP and you can still comment random pages throughout the site (articles, photography and review pages, etc.).

21 May 2007 - "When I Think Of Him, It Makes Me Sick"

As I may or may not have mentioned before, I went to see a band called Funeral For A Friend on Friday with my friends Lois and Karl.

I’d only heard a few of their older songs as I didn’t like the new album; all the songs are about freakin’ water. Seriously! But they did sing one of my favourite songs, History. I’ve liked that song for ages and it was amazing to hear it sung live. The band made a pretty big deal out of the song. During the chorus the band made the whole audience stick two fingers up in the air to go with the lyrics ‘Raise your fingers for one last sorrow’.

At the start of the concert we were quite close to the front. We couldn’t get in a row so me and Karl stood with Lois in front of us. When the second support band came on, we started pushing Lois into the beefy men in front of her and started off a circle pit (where the crowd clears a circle and runs into each other). These random boys tried pushing Karl into it, so we moved away from the pit; Lois was already long lost. When we found her at the end of the concert her hair was wild and she looked absolutely knackered. She had stayed in the pit all concert and threw up everywhere. The lovely people in the pit carried on pushing her whilst she was vomiting everywhere, how nice!

We’re going to see Hit The Lights in October. They’re an amazing band, so if you haven’t heard them before, they’re worth checking out.

In English, we’ve been designing and writing our own magazine. I made the front cover for it. I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out:

Have I missed anything out? Any suggestions? They’re thoroughly welcomed. :)
